Eagle Mountains

The best starting points are Polanica and Kudowa Zdrój, health resorts boasting the best accommodation, sports and leisure facilities in the region. In the immediate vicinity there are 3 cross-country areas with approximately 200 km of groomed trails, all within a 20 minute drive by car from your accommodation.

The heaviest snow in Central Sudetes will be in the Eagle Mountains which has a well-developed trail network of over 100 km. Depending on the snowfall, the trails from early January to late March will be groomed mechanically. Thanks to its attractive landscapes and a very interesting track over the ridge of the mountains this area enjoys increasing popularity with an international audience. However, concerns remain, as it’s only at weekends and peak holiday seasons that the trails are really well attended, at other times during the day only coached sport’s groups and the occasional runner will be present. The most famous ski-resorts to begin a skiing tour are: Zieleniec(Pl), Destne(Cz) and Ricky(Cz), all boasting both chain and ski-lifts. Another place to learn cross-country skiing is at the Polish Biathlon Centre “Jamrozowa Polana”, which has 12.5 km of groomed trails. Those who prefer rougher terrain can walk on the snow on bike paths.

Another cross-country area is located in the Table Mountains National Park. It has about 50 km of groomed trails with a connection to the Czech network of trails at Pasterka(Pl) with an additional 200 km. Although this area offers a beautiful panorama and spectacular rock formations such as Szczeliniec Wielki, Broumovske Steny and Adrspassko-Teplice Rocks, it remains most people’s second choice as snow is not guaranteed throughout the winter.

The Bystrzyckie Mountains have the most classically groomed trails of about 40 km in the Spalona-Pass (811m). In Mostowice they are connected with the Czech network of trails in the Eagle Mountains with an additional 100 km.

Absolute snow trails (not groomed) can be found at Czarna Góra (1205m) close to Ladek Zdroj. From the top station, reached by chairlift, they lead toward “toward “Schronisko pod Snieznikiem”(chalet under Snieznik), which can be reached in about 90 minutes. Other non-groomed trails include: Miedzygorze, Dolni Morava and Kraliky. In short, “Czarna Gora” is a dynamically growing ski resort and is one of the best in the Sudetes. It has 2 new chairlifts, several ski-lifts and a day’s ski-pass.

Also in the Owl Mountains, there are some, usually non-groomed, cross-country ski trails. The best starting points for a ski-trip are Rzeczka and Sokolec, both having ski-lifts, with more lifts being found on the Great Owl (1015 m) in Jugow and Walim.
